Costume jewellery tip number one

Whenever you consider buying a piece of costume jewellery the back is just as important as the front. Apart from the quality of the finish, what does the back look like? Is it in keeping with the age the item is supposed to be. Does it look new, is it dirty, faded or shiny and yellow? Does the signature of the designer look crisp, or is it sloppy and risen. I always check the back before I even begin to examine the front of the piece. It holds so many clues. It becomes second nature and after a few pieces a glance will usually tell you wether you have a superb item or a good copy.
